CBD Potency

One of the things we take great pride in at Floyd’s is making sure you get what you pay for. There’s a lot of CBD products out there but not all of them deliver the label promised dose, or indeed contain CBD at all. We make sure to use independent lab testing to certify the exact amount of CBD in each of our products.

But we would say that wouldn’t we, after all it’s kind of our job to sell you our CBD products. Well, you don’t have to take our word for it, you can ask our buddies at the Journal of the American Medical Association. We were flicking through back issues of JAMA after a ride recently and we came across this interesting article.

We won’t bore you with the details, but essentially the folks behind the article purchased a bunch of CBD products online, stored them according to instructions and then did a blinded test three times for each product to see if it had as much CBD as it claimed. The tested 84 products from 31 companies in total and found out that 26% contained less CBD than the label claimed, 43% had more than the label claimed and 21% contained THC which was not listed on the label. Only 31% of products tested had an accurate label. The worst offenders were vaping products, only 12% of those delivered the stated dose.

All of these could be problematic. Let’s start with the obvious ones, THC above .3% concentration per FDA regulations shouldn’t be in hemp CBD products. Under-labelling is obviously pretty bad—you don’t get what you pay for. Over-labelling might seem great, you get more than you paid for right? Well sure, but this isn’t helpful in dialing in your dose. If a brand over labels, this shows they don’t really know what the dosage is in their product. When one pill contains 75mg in one bottle and the next order has pills that contain only 25mg, you never really know how many to take to get your desired dosage.

At Floyd’s you get what you pay for. That is why we share our third-party, independent lab results on our website. We believe you should be able to see when, by whom and where our product was tested so that you can make an informed decision about what you put in your body. All of our lab tests are on our page, but if you have any questions about how to read them, or what they mean, feel free to drop us a line.
